A Civil Action is a noncriminal lawsuit filed by a Plaintiff against a Defendant in a court of law. Civil lawsuits pertaining to accidents and injuries are referred to as personal injury lawsuits and business related lawsuits are referred to as commercial lawsuits or commercial litigation.
Personal injury lawsuits usually involve death or serious injury resulting from someone's negligence, a dangerous condition, a design flaw or a manufacturing defect,. Personal injury lawsuits involving health practitioner negligence, doctor errors, surgical mistakes, hospital accidents and related issues are referred to as Medical Malpractice lawsuits.
